Curious about the name? This full bodied orange-pekoe was not traditionally shared with the families in the planation communities as it was kept for export. So… some leaves made their way home in the pockets of the ladies in the planation so that they could try this much talked about blend. With limited resources to process the tea the leaves were pounded in a stone Vangedi in village homes by the pluckers themselves.
The result is one of our favourite teas! Full of flavour and easy to drink with or without milk.
As with all of our teas, it’s available in loose leaf. We don’t think there is anyone who would know how to brew tea better than the pluckers who harvest the leaves daily! “Hand pounded in a stone mortar”
Our Vangedi Pekoe is hand pounded in a stone mortar and made according to Sri Lankan village traditions. Grown at our organic garden in the hills above Ravana Waterfall in Sri Lanka’s cooler mountain region, the Uva Province.
The fabric bags made to package our teas have been handmade as a part of an initiative to raise funds to improve the livelihoods of the ladies residing at Halfway Home, Mulleriyawa, National institute of Mental Health, Sri Lanka. All proceeds from the sales of the leaf bags go to the women of the Mulleriyawa institute who make the bags.
